18 persons recovered from COVID-19 in last 24 hours

The number of COVID-19 recoveries has risen to 157, with 18 recoveries in the 24-hour period ending at 10 a.m. today.

The new recoveries include seven from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), seven from the Welikanda Base Hospital, and four from the Iranawila Hospital.

Despite 16 persons testing positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, the number of active cases has dropped to 501. Of these, 137 are receiving treatment at the NIID, 129 at the Navy Hospital, 78 at the Colombo East Base Hospital, 58 at the Kathankudi Base Hospital, 57 at the Welikanda Base Hospital, 24 at the Homagama Base Hospital, and 18 at the Iranawila Hospital.

All 16 cases were identified through active surveillance in the community and only one patient was symptomatic, the latest situation report by the Epidemiology Unit states.

The total number of confirmed patients in the country is 665, of which 199 are Navy personnel from the Welisara Naval Base. This is a slight increase since the previous report, which recorded 190 confirmed cases from the naval base.

The number of persons identified from quarantine centres remains at 41 and the district distribution shows 158 from the Colombo District, 65 from Kalutara, and 52 from Gampaha. The report also states that, of the 354 cases identified since 22 April, 273 are Navy personnel and their close contacts.

In addition to this, 145 suspect patients are hospitalised, including 27 at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital, 13 at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka, and 11 at the Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital.
