Izzeth Hussain no more

Former career diplomat Izzeth Hussain passed away yesterday in Colombo.

He was a former Sri Lanka Ambassador to Russia and the Philippines. A member of the Foreign Service from 1951 to 1988, he served at diplomatic missions in the UK, Pakistan, France, Egypt, the Philippines and China. Prior to joining the Foreign Service he was the Assistant Controller of Immigration and Emigration from 1951 to 1953. He took on writing, publishing regular columns in leading newspapers.

Born in 1927, he was educated at St. Joseph's College, Colombo and passed out with a BA from the University of Ceylon, Colombo in 1950.
