Constitutional reforms are to be given priority over transitional justice, President Maithripala Sirisena has said.

The President has reportedly said this to the Consultation Task Force on Reconciliation Mechanisms (CTF) when CTF members met with President Sirisena to discuss their report which had recently been made public.

“There was a frank discussion of the CTF report and the challenges and opportunities with respect to Transitional Justice in Sri Lanka,” CTF said. The task force said that the President had clearly spelt out the prioritisation of Constitutional reforms over transitional justice.

He had also noted the need to foster support for transitional justice amongst all communities. (Colombo Gazette)
