CEB employees demand 45% pay hike

Employees of Sri Lanka’s power authority, Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) say they will start trade union action next week demanding a 45 per cent pay hike.

The CEB trade unions say the Salaries and Cadre Commission have recommended only a 15 per cent salary increase for the three years beginning from 2012.

The unionists however say the Salaries and Cadre Commission’s decision is unfair since the public employees have been granted a 10% salary increase for the 2012 alone.

The CEB employees threaten their agitations that are to begin next week may develop in to a strike unless their demand is granted.
