Senaka new Chairman at Grain Elevators

Senaka Weerasooria has been appointed as the new Chairman of Ceylon Grain Elevators Plc and Three Acre Farms Plc. The appointment follows Cheng Chih Kwong stepping down as Chairman though he will continue to be CEO and an Executive Director. He is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Prima Group and its subsidiary companies. Senaka joined the Board of Grain Elevators on 15 January as an Independent Non Executive Director and was appointed Chairman from 25 February. The entry into Grain Elevators was following the resignation of Senaka’s father Dr. Wickrema Weerasooria from the Board on 13 January as an Independent Non Executive Director. The latter served the Board since 2009. He was also on Three Acre Farms Board. Senaka is a management and information technology professional with over 25 years experience in IT and finance sector. He is currently the Vice President of FINCO Group, where he manages the IT Cluster consisting of software development company GENESIIS Software, and the hardware and systems integration company FINCO Technologies. He is also a Director at Wealth Trust Securities Ltd., a licensed primary dealer of Government securities. Having started his career as a consultant with the Professional Services Unit of the Computer Power Group in Australia (1991), Senaka joined the Australian Government service with the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) in 1993. At AQIS he worked in a variety of technical roles as a IT Project Manager, leaving AQIS as a Senior Information Technology Officer in 1995 to start his own consulting services company (Tarakan Consulting). In 2011 he returned to Sri Lanka and joined the FINCO Group. He was engaged an IT consultant on World Bank funded projects in Sri Lanka. In January 2006 Senaka was appointed as a visiting lecturer at the Postgraduate Institute of Management, Sri Lanka, in the area of IT.
