Birkenstock arrives in Sri Lanka

In an exciting win for health-conscious and practical fashion lovers in the country, internationally renowned German footwear brand, Birkenstock, has arrived in Sri Lanka, with its first outlet opening at the One Galle Face mall recently.

The new outlet is located on Level 1 of the One Galle Face mall, with new and classic Birkenstock designs available now for Sri Lankan buyers. The launch was a grand celebration at the outlet, featuring lively entertainment and delicious food as at this first-ever outlet for the first time.

With its roots tracing back to 1774, the footwear brand’s appeal lies in its commitment to comfort, durability, orthopaedic tradition and “enabling everyone to walk as nature intended”. The principle of “walking as nature intended” is made up of five fundamental elements which Birkenstock follows as its product philosophy today. These five elements include support of the natural foot anatomy, preservation of the arch structures of the feet, even distribution of the body weight over the entire foot, freedom of the toes and the activation of the foot muscles.

What sets Birkenstock apart is its signature contoured footbed, also known as the original Birkenstock footbed, designed to mimic the natural shape of the foot, prioritising foot health as it provides unparalleled support and stability. Made from a combination of cork, latex, jute, and suede, this footbed moulds to the wearer’s feet over time, shaping itself into a custom fit, mimicking the effects of natural yielding ground and mirroring a footprint in the sand.

The original Birkenstock footbed also is designed to protect the toes against external influences, support the natural toe roll-off in motion, and stabilise the metatarsal bone and ensure that the foot has a naturally straight and solid stance. It also underpins the inner longitudinal arch of the foot and acts against lowering of the inner foot edge. Similarly, it supports the outer longitudinal arch and improves the positioning of the midfoot and rear foot on the footbed. This way, the Birkenstock also embeds the heel and keeps it firmly in its natural position.
