Sri Lanka celebrates International Tea Day in Abu Dhabi

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi celebrated International Tea Day on 4 June with an elegant event at the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), bringing together UAE officials, diplomats, industry leaders, and tea enthusiasts for an evening dedicated to Sri Lanka’s renowned tea heritage.

Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Representative to the United Arab Emirates Dr. Ahmed Mukhtar attended the event as chief guest. Leading Sri Lankan tea brands, including Dilmah, Akbar Tea, Ahmad Tea, Eswaran Brothers and Stassen Tea, showcased their finest selections, highlighting the depth, diversity and craftsmanship of Ceylon Tea. Guests also participated in an exclusive tea-tasting session conducted by Ahmad Tea Certified Tea Master Mohamed Rikas, who presented the premium quality, aromas, flavours and distinctive regional characteristics of teas cultivated across Sri Lanka’s seven tea-growing regions.

In her remarks, Ambassador Dr. Arusha Cooray highlighted the legacy of Sri Lankan tea, its global significance, and the many international accolades the industry has earned. She also spoke about the island’s unique regional tea profiles, the evolution of tea production, and Sri Lanka’s continued role as a leading exporter to global markets.

The celebration drew a distinguished audience, including senior UAE officials, ambassadors, and other notable guests, all contributing to the event’s warm and vibrant atmosphere.
