First-ever Rs. 1,000 for Mattakelle Dust 1

At the Colombo Tea Auction on 20 and 21 August, an invoice of Mattakelle Dust 1 selling under the Western High Grown category realised Rs. 1,000 per kg. It was the first time the Dust 1 grade achieved a four-figure price in any elevation. In the process, it also broke its own all-time record for Dust 1 established last week at Rs. 960 per kg.

The Mattakelle Estate is situated in the heart of the Dimbula planting region in the Nuwara Eliya District and is the most renowned selling mark in the Dust 1 category and has continually remained at the top over the last decade.

The Estate is managed by Talawakelle Tea Estates PLC, a subsidiary of the Hayleys Group. This tea was purchased by New Highland Tea Stores.

These teas were successfully marketed and sold by Asia Siyaka Commodities PLC.
