Genesis by Dilmah and CVF-V20 teams celebrate a pivotal partnership aimed at pioneering low-carbon innovation and sustainable development across vulnerable economies

A landmark memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed in Colombo between the Climate Vulnerable Forum and V20 (CVF-V20) and Genesis by Dilmah, an agri-entrepreneurship and sustainability innovation hub. The MoU aims to strengthen collaboration on sustainable agriculture and low-carbon technology strategies in Sri Lanka. The partnership is a significant step toward harnessing innovative, climate-smart solutions that build resilience in the country, as well as providing best practice examples for sharing and collaboration among CVF-V20 member countries.

The Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) is an inter-governmental organisation comprising of countries that are disproportionately affected by the consequences of climate change. Former President of the Maldives and the first democratically elected president of the country Mohamed Nasheed, is the Secretary General of the CVF. With membership of over 70 countries, the purpose of the CVF is to channel input from the most vulnerable groups, creating new policies and promoting effective action on climate change as it evolves. The CVF has registered Climate Prosperity Plans in 20 member countries including Sri Lanka.

At the signing, Dilmah Chairman/CEO Dilhan C. Fernando said, “The relationship between CVF and Genesis allows us to jointly identify, study and implement strategies that drive climate adaptation and mitigation, whilst aligning with UN SDG’s and the goals of the shareholder. Successful initiatives can be scaled further through the CVF network of members, which brings added impact to our initiatives.”

V20 Finance Advisor and Managing Director Sara Jane Ahamed emphasised the importance of climate finance in CVF member countries as a means of attracting the required resources to fund climate action. CVF is engaging with the Government to assist them in accessing climate funding at a national level.
