Prof. Mohan Munasinghe, 2007 Nobel Peace Prize Co-Laureate and 2021 Blue Planet Laureate received felicitations and a special award for exceptional contributions to world peace and harmony from His Excellency Ram Nath Kovind (left), 14th President of India, at the Billionaires for Peace Conclave in Mumbai on 25 May 2026. Professor Mohan Munasinghe, 2021 Blue Planet Prize Laureate and co-winner of the 2007 Nobel Prize for Peace, received felicitations and a special award for exceptional contributions to world peace and harmony from His Excellency Ram Nath Kovind, 14th President of India, at the Billionaires for Peace Conclave in Mumbai on 25 May 2026. This major peace summit was attended by 40 billionaires, 4 Nobel Peace Laureates, spiritual leaders, and other senior government and business leaders. It was organized by Dr. Huzaifa Khorakiwala, President of the Wockhardt Foundation whose work bridges peace promotion, service, leadership, and human values.
In his keynote speech, Prof. Munasinghe emphasized the importance of integrating and balancing the sustainable development triangle, including economic, social and environmental dimensions, which he first proposed at the 1992 UN Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. He stressed that global sustainable development and peace are mutually reinforcing. He also called for the Peace Community to bridge the gap between BRICS+ and the west, to build a more prosperous, conflict-free world, and especially to avoid nuclear World War 3.
Prof. Munasinghe is Chairman of MIND Group in Colombo, including the non-profit Munasinghe Institute for Development (MIND), a UN recognized centre of excellence on sustainable development, and MIND AM focusing on data analytics and management. He is Chair, Climate & Conservation Consortium (CCC); Board Director, Eureka Group; Distinguished Guest Professor at Peking University, China; and Chair of the President’s Expert Committee that prepared the “Sustainable Sri Lanka 2030 Vision” report. His work has contributed to key global agreements like the 1992 Agenda 21 & UNFCCC, 2015 Paris Climate Agreement and UN Sustainable Development Goals.
