IASL Appoints New Office Bearers for the 2025/26 Tenure

The Insurance Association of Sri Lanka (IASL), the official representative body of the country’s insurance industry, has appointed its office bearers for the 2025/26 term.

The appointments of the Office bearers were made at the Annual General Meeting held on 26th March 2025. Following this, the appointments of the Subcommittee Chairs were made during the IASL Executive Committee Meeting on 08th May 2025.

Mr. Lasitha Wimalaratne, Chief Executive Officer of HNB Assurance, has been appointed as President of the IASL. Ms. Chathuri Munaweera, Chief Executive Officer of AIA Insurance will serve as Vice President. Mr. S Karthigun, Chief Executive Officer of Amana Takaful, takes the role of Secretary, while Mr. Tanuj Edward, Chief Executive Officer of Orient Insurance, assumes the role of the Treasurer. Mr. J. M. Niyas remains as the Secretary-General of the association.

The IASL Executive Committee and its subcommittees are united in their proactive approach to addressing key industry priorities and emerging challenges. Among those spearheading these initiatives are Mr. Rushdi Zarook, Head of Legal & Compliance - Amana Takaful who chairs the Legal Affairs Committee; Mr. Roshan Peiris Senior General Manager – National Distribution - Softlogic Life who leads the Marketing & Sales Forum; and Mr. Nuwan Hettiararachi, Chief Information Officer at Continental Insurance, who heads the IT Subcommittee.

Ms. Rishikulya Gunasekera, Assistant General Manager – Actuarial services at Ceylinco Life, chairs the Actuarial Subcommittee, while Mr. Dinusha Thilanka, Head of Underwriting – Motor – LOLC General leads the General Insurance Forum. Ms. Thushari Perera, Director HR at AIA Insurance, heads the HR Subcommittee. Mr. Sampath Thushara, Chief Financial Officer of AIA Insurance, chairs the Finance & Technical Subcommittee, and Mr. Mahendra Wilegoda, Head of Life Operations at HNB Assurance, leads the Life Insurance Forum.
