Taking a step toward protecting sustainability and environmental responsibility as a CSR initiative, Cleantech (Pvt) Ltd., a member of Abans Group, has been named as the official recycling partner for the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Perahera 2025. Beginning from 23rd July, Cleantech will oversee the collection and proper disposal of plastic and other waste generated during the revered cultural and religious festivities.
This initiative highlights the ongoing mission of Cleantech to prioritize sustainability, a major concern often not taken into consideration during large-scale public gatherings. In preparation for the event, Cleantech organized a major cleanup campaign on 11th July at the Kiriwehera premises, ensuring the sacred surroundings remain clean following the Perahera activities.
One of the standout features of this year’s effort is the deployment of eco-friendly electric bikes (E-bikes) for waste collection. From 23rd July, these E-bikes will operate within the Kataragama temple premises, allowing for efficient, silent, and sustainable waste management throughout the Perahera period.
As part of its broader commitment to sustainability, Cleantech continues to encourage all devotees and visitors to use segregated waste bins placed across the temple grounds, fostering a clean and respectful environment for worship.
Cleantech’s 2025 initiative is conducted in partnership with Central Environment Authority, with strong support from Ruhunu Kataragama Maha Dewalaya and other stakeholders.
A remarkable highlight of this year’s festival was the collection of over 4,489 kilograms (approximately 141,000 plastic bottles) through a joint effort by Cleantech, Gunadamin Elephant House, and a network of voluntary social service organizations. This achievement showcases what collective action and responsible stewardship can accomplish when unified to achieve sustainable goals.
Moreover, Cleantech also served as the main media sponsor for the live Facebook telecast of the final day of the Kataragama Esala Perahera, broadening access to one of Sri Lanka’s most celebrated spiritual events.
With a focus on innovation, collaboration, and reverence for sacred traditions, Cleantech's involvement in the 2025 Kataragama Perahera sets a new benchmark for eco-conscious celebration, signifying that spiritual worship should be carried out with purity at the forefront for a cleaner, greener tomorrow.
