The World Class University Project (WCUP-2014) of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, through the involvement of Prof. Ranil de Silva, initiated a joint venture between the USJP and the Northern Kentucky University with the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two universities recently.
A media statement issued by the USJP said that this unique achievement will provide an opening towards exchange of students, faculty members and researchers with the objective of offering courses and realising research projects and joint publications in areas mutually agreed upon by both universities and by exchanging of undergraduate and graduate students with the objective of enrolling students in courses appropriate to their year and area of study.
The signing of the MOU were headed by Prof. Geoffrey S. Mearns, President of NKU and Prof Sampath Amaratunga, Vice Chancellor of the USJP; while, Sue Ott Rowlands, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, NKU, Highland Heights, USA; Sally Sternal, Representative of the US Embassy in Sri Lanka and Prof. Ranil de Silva Director, WCUP-2014, acted as the witness on behalf of NKU and USJP respectively.
This newly-strengthened relationship between USJP and NKU will ultimately help elevating University’s current world ranking.
Northern Kentucky University is one of the fastest-growing universities in USA and serves more than 14,000 students from 41 states and 64 countries. NKU offers 60 bachelors, 12 associates and 14 graduate degree programs ranging from Anthropology to Kinesiology.
NKU promises to put its students first, lead with academic excellence and strive to make a lasting impact in global higher education and through the efforts in the community ties to educational collaboration, moulding students and helping to shape and expand the ever-changing world into which they will graduate, the release further stated.
The 41st Convocation of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ) will be held on 28 and 29 July at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall for the conferment of degrees.
The following graduands are eligible for the conferment of degrees at this convocation.
(i) Graduands (Postgraduate Degree/Postgraduate Diploma) who have passed the Final Internal Examinations conducted by the University of Sri Jayewardenepura relevant to the academic year 2014 and 2015.
(ii) Graduands (First Degree) who have passed the Final Internal Examinations whose results were issued subsequent to the convocation held on 24 and 25 September 2014.
For the conferment of degrees eligible graduands are required to call over personally with the student record book and collect the supplication form and payment vouchers to the following relevant officers. Further details can be obtained from www.sjp.ac.lk web site too.
The supplication form should accompany a receipt for the payment of relevant fee as indicated below:
First Degree (BA, BSc, MBBS) Rs. 1500.00
First Degree (BA, BSc, MBBS) (in absentia) Rs. 1500.00
Postgraduate Degree & Diploma Rs. 3000.00
Postgraduate Degree & Diploma (in absentia) Rs. 3000.00
Payments should be made to the credit of the current A/C No. 097-1001-6-2315454 University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Nugegoda at the People’s Bank, Gangodawila or any branch of the Peoples’ Bank.
The duly completed supplication form together with the bank receipt and a (23x10cm) self-addressed stamped (Rs. 25) envelop should be handed over to the relevant officers on or before 2 July 2015. The Registrar of the Sri Jayewardenepura University said applications received after this date will be rejected.
