A teacher training workshop in English is being planned in early August to be conducted by a UK-qualified resource person in Colombo.
Areas to be covered in the workshop include – how to write a lesson plan, Identifying objectives of the lesson and steering the students to meet this, behaviour management, identifying the type of teacher, time keeping, use of pupil data to differentiate the lesson, methods of assessment and target setting, marking work and report writing and use of starters, main and plenary.
The workshop coordinator will be Pasan Fernando, BA Hons. (Nottingham, UK), MLitt (St. Andrews, UK), PGCE (IOE, UK), who is currently an economics teacher at the John Lyon School in Harrow, UK – a private school in partnership with Harrow School. He is also an expert examiner in the A’Level Edexcel economics series.
Organisers said the workshop would teach participants how to structure a successful lesson plan, ways to manage a classroom, differentiate lessons by using pupil data and create exciting activities to engage student participation etc. The workshop will be conducted in the style of a postgraduate certificate in education.
