Sri Lanka Technological Campus invites AL students to apply for engineering degree

Going by past statistics it is estimated that only 12% of the total number of students who sat for ALs will be able to secure a place in local universities. In Sri Lanka, engineering is considered one of the top three options for further studies and this leaves a majority of students without a place at a local university of their choice, with a few opting to study overseas. 

To overcome this situation, the Sri Lanka Technological Campus (SLTC) has embarked on a four-year engineering degree program developed in accordance with the Washington accord, offering students the option of fulfilling their dream profession.

Fully owned by Sri Lanka Telecom, the SLTC study programs leading to four-year degree programs are designed to provide sound theoretical, practical and analytical knowledge with the fundamentals of engineering and technology.

SLTC Head of Corporate Affairs Rohan Jayaweera said, “There will be many aspiring engineering hopefuls who will not be able to gain entry into the state universities with their local AL results. This is because of the limited placements in the engineering departments. These students should apply to SLTC and fulfil their dream.”

The entry criterion for the SLTC engineering degree which is in line with the Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework includes three passes in Physics, Chemistry and Combined Mathematics. “The entire process is very simple and we have various payment plans that will enable more students to gain entry,” said Jayaweera. 

The SLTC recently signed a Letter of Intent with UK’s Lancaster University which will enable both parties to offer a 2+2 undergraduate Engineering program leading to a degree awarded by Lancaster University. The proposal envisages that the first two years of the program would be taught at SLTC, Sri Lanka and the final two years at Lancaster University in the UK. 

The campus is located at the SLT Satellite Station in Padukka, which is easily accessible from Colombo via common transport modes and can accommodate students in a comfortable environment located on a sprawling 35-acre property. The campus also has all required facilities including laboratories, classrooms, auditorium and library. The administrative office and the city campus are based at TRACE expert city in Maradana.
