Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau to partner University of Sri Jayewardenepura to boost marketing

The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau will partner University of Sri Jayewardenepura to boost its marketing approach, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Chairman Dr. Rohantha Athukorala said at a press conference to announce the 2015 edition of Sri Lanka International University Romp 2015 which is to be held this week.
The event is unique given that 25 participants from Europe, Africa and Asia will be in attendance whilst 75 will be from the university system of Sri Lanka. This year’s edition will be continued in the years to come so that it can be a calendared event in the global university system, said Dr. Athukorala.
With the overall engagement with the world on high gear as advocated by the new Government, the university system to be aligned with the Department of Marketing Management of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura together with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau has put together the ‘Sri Lanka International University Romp 2015 – Strangers’ said the Chairperson of the organising committee Tharindu Hasantha.
Although the event, since its inception in 2013, has been organised only for the internal undergraduates of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, the 2015 competition has taken one step forward where it is open for the other domestic undergraduates in State and private universities, as well as the international undergraduates all around the world.
The event will be a two day program that is scheduled to be held on 11 and 12 June and on day one it will be the City Romp in Colombo where the participants will understand the key places of the city and then they proceed to the picturesque town of Kitulagala for the day long activities to be performed on day two.
The Vice Chancellor of University of Sri Jayewardenepura Prof. Sampath Amaratunge said that this first step will encourage several other parties in organising such extraordinary events as it is a timely need of the country. He also emphasised on the fact that the youth today is in need of the mental and physical fitness and good health and wellbeing above all, and that these kinds of events do build a solid platform to create a better generation in the time to come.
The press conference in line with this event was held on 3 June at Hotel Taj Samudra, Colombo with the presence of Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Chairman Dr. Rohantha Athukorala, University of Sri Jayewardenepura Vice Chancellor Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce Dean Dr. U. Anura Kumara, University of Sri Jayewardenepura Head of Department Dr. M.A.A. Malkanthie, Official safety partner T.G. Mahesh Priyadarshana, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Assistant Marketing Director C.L. Gasnawage, sponsors and partners of the event, and several other media personalities in the country.
