For over a decade, SLIIT has been recognised as the premier degree awarding institute in the country which provides a broad scope of academic opportunities for students in the fields of Computing, Business and Engineering. Since 2006 SLIIT has been affiliated with prestigious universities in UK, Australia, USA and Canada. These affiliations allowed students to obtain foreign University degrees while living in Sri Lanka or transfer options to partner universities after completing two years of study at SLIIT. SLIIT commenced enrolment of students for the undergraduate degree programs of Sheffield Hallam University (UK) and Curtin University, Australia which are conducted at SLIIT.
SLIIT and Sheffield Hallam University have been in formal partnership for many years. The BBA (Hons) degrees in Business Management will be conducted by an experienced in-house lecture panel to give students a comprehensive subject combination to suit industry demands. Entry requirement for this degree program is three passes at the G.C.E A/L examination (Sri Lanka / London) or equivalent in any subject stream at one and the same sitting.
SLIIT President and CEO Professor Lalith Gamage states that the Business degree offered by Sheffield Hallam University (SHU), UK provides a vital pathway for SLIIT students to explore their potential within the sphere of business. It is the goal of SLIIT to successfully mould students into well-rounded, highly competent professionals who will make a mark in their chosen career path.
Degrees in Electronic Engineering and MEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Sheffield Hallam University are also offered under this partnership, thereby allowing students the opportunity to complete these degrees in Sri Lanka and gain world class Bachelors degrees from UK. Students enrolling in these programs will have the scope of participating in industry standard practical projects of high quality and economic relevance.
While the entry requirement for the degree in Electronic Engineering program is three passes at the G.C.E A/L examination (Sri Lanka / London) in Mathematics and Physics in one and the same sitting, the MEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering would require, a ‘B’ pass in both Mathematics and Physics. Students following all degrees conducted by SHU have the option of weekday or weekend classes.
The Curtin University partnership with SLIIT will allow students to pursue the following Engineering degree programs; Civil and Construction Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. The admission requirement for the Engineering degrees is three passes at the G.C.E A/L examination (Sri Lanka / London), including a credit pass in Mathematics/Physics in one and the same sitting.
The SLIIT - Curtin University partnership, also paves the way for students to obtain BSc degrees in Information Technology, Software Engineering and Computer Systems and Networking. To enter these degree programs, students should have obtained at least three passes at the G.C.E A/L examination (Sri Lanka / London) in any subject stream in one and the same sitting. However, admissions to the Computer Systems and Networking degree require a pass in Mathematics or Physics.
All degree programs offered by the Curtin University and Sheffield Hallam University require students to secure a pass at the aptitude test conducted by SLIIT. While the degree programs are offered by prestigious foreign universities, classes are held in Sri Lanka. For all the programs, students awaiting results of the GCE A/L examination are also eligible to apply.
“These degrees prepare students for a professional career, providing the necessary skills needed in each subject stream. SLIIT which has affiliations with 22 foreign universities gives students the choice of studying at SLIIT or transferring to the respective partner university after two years of study at SLIIT. Students have the opportunity to gain a well recognised foreign university degree at a fraction of a cost,” notes SLIIT Chairman Professor S. Karunaratne.
