The Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT), the leading institute for IT, electronic engineering and business management in Sri Lanka has commenced enrolment for the new academic year, seeking to nurture a new generation of experts who will lend their skills towards boosting the workforce in these related industries as well as social and economic upliftment of the country.

SLIIT, established in 1999 to educate and produce skilled professionals in the fast-rising IT industry, is the largest degree awarding institute in the country in the field of Information Technology. The scope presented through the academic opportunities at SLIIT ensures the availability of a rich pool of IT experts who are constantly raising the bar within their respective IT disciplines and industries in the country.

The IT industry in Sri Lanka has witnessed exceptional growth within the last few years. In light of the current necessity for an increase of skilled professionals not only in the IT workforce, but also in related sectors which utilise technology for their operations, such as banks, the scope for IT experts at different levels of expertise is great.  “To date, SLIIT has produced nearly a third of skilled IT professionals who have made their mark in this sector, and we aim to constantly redefine our academic standards in keeping with evolving industry demands,” noted Chairman of SLIIT, Professor S. Karunaratne.

“The importance of university-industry linkage in fostering students to function within a competitive work environment is also an essential factor for nurturing professional skills,” said Professor Lalith Gamage, President and CEO of SLIIT.

“We have developed strong ties with foreign universities including the UK, USA, and Australia to facilitate learning which encompasses many academic pathways and opportunities for students, and we work closely with industry partners to enhance students’ career placement opportunities upon graduation”.

SLIIT recently commenced operations in Jaffna and Bangladesh in a bid to make academic resources available to a wider student population. The institute aims to ensure a high standard of education and training and places strong focus on research and development to produce specialists who will make their mark on the IT, Business and Electronic Engineering platforms in Sri Lanka.
