Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa was the Chief Guest at the Samurdhi Sip Dora Scholarship awarding program held at the Naiwala weekly fair in Minuwangoda. A total of 8,133 students will be awarded island-wide Samurdhi Sip Dora scholarships, while the cost of scholarships is 195 million.
Under the Samurdhi Sip Dora Scholarship program, 450 students from the Gampaha District have been granted scholarships with a payment of Rs. 1,000 per month for a period of two years. As per the instructions of the Economic Development Ministry, funds have been provided by the Department of Commissioner General of Samurdhi for the scholarship program. Gampaha District MP Ruwan Ranatunga, Sri Lanka Samurdhi Authority Director General Attorney Bundula Thilakasiri, Department of the Commissioner General of Samurdhi, Director General Chanda Wickamasinghe, Gampaha District Secretary J.A. Rathnasiri and several Government officials participated at the occasion.
