The NDB Capital Scholarship Trust, a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative of NDB Capital Holdings PLC (NCAP), started its journey by awarding the first round of scholarships to deserving university students from University of Moratuwa, University of Sri Jayewardenepura and University of Colombo. The awardees were selected from diverse backgrounds such as engineering, medicine, law and management studies. The Trust was established with the intention of contributing to the country’s education system by providing assistance to those who need it most. “The right attitude and application of knowledge and skills gained through higher education is the key to success in the corporate world. As a knowledge-based organisation, NCAP is providing a unique opportunity to you by not only giving financial assistance but also providing guidance for your future development,” said NDB Bank CEO Rajendra Theagarajah, addressing the recipients of scholarships. While grants were primarily based on financial need, merit factors including academic work, leadership qualities and extracurricular activities were also taken into consideration. In addition to the financial grants, the Trust will also provide career counselling, internships, leadership training programs and guidance required to address job market challenges. The career guidance program for the awardees is an opportunity that will differentiate the scholarship awarded by NCAP from pure financial assistance generally awarded through scholarships. The awardees were selected through a transparent process, taking aforesaid factors into consideration. NDB Capital Holdings PLC CEO and Trust Chairman Vajira Kulatilaka addressing the awardees stated, “We understand our duty to support you, the future leaders of this country by providing the much needed assistance to further your education. As beneficiaries of the country’s free education system, the Scholarship Trust is our way of giving back to the society. We are eagerly looking forward to seeing you thrive in your respective careers and contribute positively to the development of this country so that we can make the world a better place to live in.” The Trust intends to expand the offering of scholarships to other Sri Lankan universities in the future covering a higher number of students. NCAP is committed to provide financial assistance as well as intellectual support to students with the guidance of its employees. The company believes that the investment in education of country’s young generation will provide both short term and long term returns towards the country’s social and economic development. NDB Capital Holdings PLC is a subsidiary of National Development Bank PLC.
