La Trobe University, Australia offers new programs for Business and IT/IS students

A senior delegation from La Trobe Business School – La Trobe University (LTU), Australia recently visited Sri Lanka with the aim of introducing new programs in Master of Business Analytics.

La Trobe University La Trobe Business School Head Professor Paul Mather headed the delegation. He was joined by three Senior Business School colleagues: La Trobe Business School Professor in Business Analytics Damminda Alahakoon, La Trobe Business School, Associate Professor in Business Analytics Kok-Leong Ong, who is also one of the four academics in the management team of the Education and Training Program of Australia’s Data-to-Decision Cooperative Research Centre and La Trobe University La Trobe Business School Director of Post Graduate Education Marc Olynyk. 

The purpose of their visit to Sri Lanka was to create new and improved opportunities for students of both countries through numerous study and exchange programs.

“La Trobe University’s constant endeavour to engage with key countries in our region and to keep creating enhanced opportunities for students has brought us to Sri Lanka this year. Our new Master of Business Analytics addresses considerable skill gaps in the emerging ‘big data’ area and should help students from Sri Lanka benefit from the cutting edge expertise within our Business School,” said La Trobe Business School Head Professor Paul Mather.

La Trobe Business School, Australia is offering programs such as the Master of Business Analytics along with a wide range of business and management courses for both domestic as well as international markets.

It is projected that by 2018, the US market alone will require an additional 140,000 to 190,000 analytics professionals and 1.5 million more managers with knowledge in analytics.

During the visit, La Trobe Business School had also planned events with the industry leaders in Sri Lanka.

Symposium on big data and business analytics

La Trobe Business School conducted a one-day symposium on ‘Big Data & Analytics – Impact on Business Organisations’ in partnership with the Lanka BPO Academy on 3 September. The participants included a range of senior staff from industry as well as Sri Lankan universities.

La Trobe University organised a one-day training workshop for its agents to brief them on recent developments at La Trobe University and new courses introduced by the university. 

They also met various partner institutes such as the University of Moratuwa, SLIIT, The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Sri Lanka and Australian College of Business and Technology (ACBT) and conducted guest lectures and information sessions for their students.

The Postgraduate Excellence Award is available for selected postgraduate courses at any La Trobe campus.
