Nadarasa Registrar (second right) join Priyanthi Dissanayake of Scholarships For USA to congratulate Kalani Sithara (third right) on her acceptance to the Truman State University as a transfer student
Kalani Sithara recently became the latest student of Institute of Chemistry Ceylon to transfer to a US university on a 2+2 collaboration module initiated by Scholarships for USA Ltd., the island’s only exclusive recruiter to the US.
Kalani becomes the first student to transfer to Truman State in Kirksville Missouri which offered her a generous scholarship, 100% transfer credits and many other incentives. Truman is no stranger to Sri Lanka having educated the current Deputy Minister Foreign Affairs Dr. Harsha De Silva MP as its first Lankan undergraduate student and following up with ever-expanding Lankan community.
Truman is ranked as # 1 public university in US Midwest for 17 consecutive years and is ranked 12th on Kiplinger’s list of 100 “Best Values in Public Colleges” and 9th in the nation for the best out-of-state value.
The Chemistry transfer program one of several academic links SUSA has initiated in the recent past bringing US and Sri Lankan institutes of higher education together to help more Lankan academics to further their studies in US at most affordable costs.
With Truman State agreeing to grant 100% credit transfers and attractive scholarships many ICC students would find Truman an excellent university to earn a highly reputed US degree at half the cost. Each student would be able to make use of part-time work in the campus and internships in the US corporate world not only augmenting their income but arming them with priceless and globally marketable work experience.
Scholarships for USA, since ‘01, has been passionately committed to making US education increasingly affordable to Sri Lankans and as per their track record they have placed over 300 students from all corners of the island including Jaffna and Ampara in universities across the US from sunny Hawaii to cold North Dakota. They have also, in their 14 years of existence, managed to initiate the largest number of collaborations between US and SL academic institutes.
Referring to her experience of SUSA, Kalani said: “They were more like parents to me than counselors. They were always within reach when I needed them. Aunty Priyanthi guided me from Chicago through many phone conversations. I am so glad I found them.”
