Virtusa Corporation, a global IT services company that offers a broad spectrum of business consulting and outsourcing services, announced their partnership with EDEX and the signing of the MoU at a press briefing held on Tuesday.
The EDEX career portal www.edexcareers.com was also launched by Principal of Royal College Colombo and Chief Guest for the occasion Upali Gunasekara.
Virtusa came forth to enhance and incorporate the existing EDEX website, redesigning and revamping it in to a more robust and scalable platform that will provide fast activation and prompt outcomes.
This is another initiative under Virtusa’s Tech Reach programme that is focused on improving and encouraging a more IT enabled society by supporting their employees to volunteer in applying their skills in projects of social benefit and education.
With the vision ‘To Empower Sri Lankan youth to be globally competitive through right education and market relevant skills leading to gainful employment, Team EDEX took the initiative to create Sri Lanka’s single largest platform for higher education and career guidance enabling thousands of aspiring youth and their parents to make informed decisions.
Whist the annual EDEX Expo largely fulfilled this task, the need to create a web platform emerged over the years in order to reach out to mostly the rural youth and to make such services available on a 24/7 basis.
Chairman EDEX Kamal Abeysinghe said: “We greatly appreciate the vast improvements and value additions Virtusa has brought in to our virtual platform. As a great deal of time, effort and money can be saved with the vast array of invaluable resources available online, the real winners of this joint effort will be the youth.’’
While improving the infrastructure of the site, Virtusa ensures that the new site delivers an enhanced user interface and Aesthetics, and will also include many new features that will enrich and enhance the career portal.
Among the new features included are the job search, psychometric testing applications, new content management for administering advertisements, career guidance support and most importantly a systematic filtering and matching process that will enable users of the site to receive alerts from institutes, potential employers and training and vocational institutions as per their chosen interest and educational information as provided by them across all fields.
This two way communication serves as a linkup between the seekers and providers, and also the heavily integrated social media add-ons in the site ensures optimum sharing and access of information across the net, revolutionising the entire system.

The site currently has a monthly hit rate of around three thousand to five thousand from users all over the island and even abroad. It is believed that with the launch of the newly revamped and enhanced site, it will generate more traffic.
EDEX Careers primarily an online platform makes available a host of information providing career guidance, higher education options, skills development opportunities, vocational training opportunities and employment.
With over a hundred of educational institutions and over two thousand courses integrated in to their site, it allows students potential employees and anyone interested in receiving educational and career enhancing services to do so.
