Illinois Institute of Technology Welcomes Lankan Recruiters

Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago’s top school for engineering and technology recently welcomed Sri Lanka’s top student recruiters to US Priyanthi and Padmasena Dissanayake of Scholarships for USA (Pvt.) Ltd (www.scholarshipsforusa.com) to its campus at west 33 Street Chicago. Dissanayakes were received by Vice Provost Student Access, Success and Diversity Initiatives Gerald P.Doyle and International Partnerships Associate Director Rishab Malhotra.



The Dissanayakes with Gerald P. Doyle, Rishab Malhotra and International Admission Counsellor Amy MartinIIT is a national technological PhD granting research university with world-renowned programs in engineering, architecture, the sciences, humanities, psychology, business, law and design. Founded in 1940 with roots dating back to 1890s it has a much smaller undergraduate population of 2,300 compared to the total population of 7,400. Its Armour College of Engineering offers many majors of engineering including aerospace, architectural, biomedical, chemical, civil, computer, electrical, engineering management, industrial technology and management, material science and engineering and mechanical.

Dissanayakes briefed both Gerald and Rishab of their goal of placing as many deserving Lankans as possible in US universities and emphasised on the importance of affordability. IIT in response agreed to be as generous as possible for the top achievers.

Having learnt of IIT’s global involvements Dissanayakes invited them to get involved with Sri Lanka on long term basis including sending its students on Study Abroad, collaborating with Lankan institutes and faculty/student exchanges all of which were received very favourably by IIT officials.

Sri Lankan visit was facilitated by the US Department of Commerce/Export Assistance Centre in Chicago and Study Illinois.
