The Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT) recently held the opening ceremony of its new premises located at 504, Galle Road, Colombo 06.
The opening ceremony was followed by religious and traditional observances. The ceremony was graced by Informatics Group Chairman Dr. Gamini Wickramasinghe, Informatics Group Deputy Chairman Hasith Wickramasinghe and IIT CEO Dr. Sampath Kannangara.
During the past several months IIT has witnessed a surge in students that want to obtain higher educational qualification from a globally renowned university. In order to accommodate the growing number of students, IIT has extended the campus to this new location.
IIT recently introduced several new programs which are in line with the global industry needs. These include programs such as Msc Big Data Analytics from Robert Gordon University, UK, MBA from Canterbury Christ Church University, UK, Msc Advanced Software Engineering from the University of Westminster, UK and Diploma in Computing with a pathway to Deakin University, Australia.
The new facility will house final year undergraduate students and post graduate students. For all postgraduate programs, guest lectures from industry leaders and industry specific workshops will be conducted by IIT at this premise which will help students to enhance their skills and be ahead in the corporate world.
The new building which is located conveniently in Galle Road, Wellawatte comes with state of the art facilities, labs and spacious lecture rooms which will add more value to the learning experience at IIT.
Dr. Sampath Kannangara said that the institute is currently expanding its operations in order to provide a quality assured learning experience. He added that with the introduction of new programmes, IIT has experienced an increase in number of students that have enrolled to follow the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes conducted by the institute.
“We have moved most of our postgraduate teaching and learning facilities which was previously located at our main campus to Galle Road with the main objective of having a convenient and study friendly facility which could cater to our students needs. We recently introduced several new programmes and we hope to introduce several more industry specific programmes which will be conducted in this new location,” Dr. Kannangara said.
“In order to be ahead in this competitive world it is essential for professionals to have industry specific postgraduate qualifications. At IIT, we offer some of the world’s most recognised postgraduate programmes which will help professionals to excel in their chosen career path,” he said.
IIT is a pioneer in conducting internationally renowned British undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Business and Information Technology in Sri Lanka since 1990. Over the year IIT has annexed its position as an award winning campus which has contributed to the growth of Sri Lanka’s IT industry.
