Programming, Business Mathematics, Requirement Analysis, Information and Data Modelling, and Principles of Marketing form the core of the first year’s syllabus. During the second year of ISBM, students follow Business Information Systems Design and Development, Project Management, Operations Management and Finance and Human Resource Management, as well as professional practice. These subjects are the foundation that is necessary to equip the students for their third year which is the placement year.  The most important and unique placement year sees students in industry related organisations experiencing practical manifestations of what they have been learning. Being able to observe the practical application of their course and further enhance their knowledge on the same has been of invaluable experience and benefit to IIT students. This wealth of information is of added benefit during their final year of study as they can channel their practical experience into subjects such as Information System Quality and Testing, Business Strategy, Managing Business Organisations and Information System Strategy as well as their final year project. These projects are often extremely pragmatic in their approach and delivery as the student is aware of the outside working world and its environment. 

The key objective of the ISBM degree is to develop multidisciplinary professionals who can understand the business challenges in functional units such as Marketing, Finance, Human Resources and Operations Management. Being able to observe the practical application of their course and further enhance their knowledge on the same has been of invaluable experience and benefit to IIT students. Further, this degree is also designed to produce graduates who will be able to integrate their ICT skills with their knowledge of business operations and management to support an enterprise to achieve competitive advantage.  The most unique feature of this program is the third year where students are provided with work experience as they are employed at either a multinational or local blue-chip company.
