The Human Resource Management Institute (HRMI) has been awarded the status of an Approved Centre to conduct the ‘Edexcel BTEC Higher National Diploma in Business – Human Resource Management’ by Edexcel, UK’s largest awarding body, providing academic and vocational qualifications in over 100 countries.

In January 2011 Pearson, the world’s leading learning company reported that more than 100,000 students were successful in applying to higher education after studying for BTEC qualifications. The figures show that admissions to UK universities by BTEC students have risen 30% year on year.

Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA – UK) research has revealed that 95 per cent of higher education institutions accept BTEC students, and more than 50% of 20- to 30-year-olds going on to higher education are BTEC students. These figures highlight that BTEC qualifications provides the students with the skills they need to progress to higher education.

HRMI offers comprehensive coaching to ensure that its students are well equipped to fulfil the challenging standards of the Edexcel HND.  Higher National Diploma in Human Resource Management at HRMI will take two years as it is equivalent to the first and second years of a Bachelor’s Degree programme.

Completion of the Edexcel HND will open a convenient pathway to HRMI students to obtain a degree with direct admission to the final year. The advantage HRMI students gain is the choice of universities as Edexcel HND is accepted by over 100 leading universities in UK, Australia, Malaysia and in other Commonwealth Countries.

According to a HRMI spokesperson, there will soon be opportunities to complete the entire degree in Sri Lanka at a very affordable cost.

This Edexcel award to HRMI has resulted in Sri Lankan students being able to secure an international HR qualification at a fraction of a cost compared to what they would have to pay in England or Australia. On completion of the Bachelors Degree in HR, students have the opportunity of pursuing a Masters Degree in Management/HR or Business Administration.

HRMI (www.hrmi.lk) believes in the mission to ‘Develop human resource management skills in Sri Lanka by bringing together HR professionals and the academia to take the lead role in educating the next generation of HR practitioners’.

The HRMI Faculty comprises of high calibre HR professionals from leading private sector institutions in Sri Lanka. These lecturers possess a minimum of a Masters Degree in Management together with at least five years experience in HRM to ensure that teaching standards are comparable with any other Edexcel location in the west.

The institute provides good infrastructure facilities including air-conditioned lecture halls equipped with Audio-Visual facilities, study rooms, library, etc.

All GCE Advanced Level qualified non working candidates who join the HRMI – HND programme are provided with a six months structured internship training to ensure that they gain the much needed ‘hands-on’ experience in modern HR practices and applications.

Many students said the commitment and good work during ‘internship training’ resulted in securing employment offers on completion of training. Working students are also guided to apply their knowledge and practical skills in their workplaces.

Students have free unlimited access to instructors to obtain ‘individual-study-support’ in all subjects and modules to facilitate personalised attention. This facility enables students to cover-up an unavoidable absence from a lecture or to seek specific clarifications. All subjects and modules are supported with text books and supplementary reading material. Lectures are held on Sundays from 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the HRM Institute, located at No. 246, Nawala Road, Nawala (junction).
