Don Bosco Technical Centre Negombo will celebrate its golden jubilee on Friday 12th July with President Mahinda Rajapaksa due to grace the occasion as chief guest at 6.30 pm. The management of Don Bosco headed by Rev. Fr. Anthony H. Pinto provides youth with necessary training in order to tap their vocational talents and skills. The Centre provide a ‘safe haven’ to the school drop out, poor marginalized youth devoid of racial, religious and ethnic considerations. Since 1963 nearly 20,000 GCE O/L failed students, mostly orphans and war affected youth have been gainfully employed with moral values upon successful completion of their vocational training. A good percentage of them occupy either executive or managerial level responsibilities both here and abroad. Don Bosco Technical Centre is registered as a private, voluntary social service, non governmental charitable organization and offers 14 Tertiary and National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) courses with green practices, conservation of energy and environmental values; as an alternative path to higher technical education with competency standards to reach university level. Thus far, Don Bosco is the only private organization which offers the highest number of Government accredited courses to poor marginalized youth in the country.
