Vice Chancellor of the Colombo University Prof. Kshanika Hirimburegama says that students are suffering due to the actions of a few faculty members.

The Vice Chancellor says that students suffer due to the strike action by the faculty members of the Federation of University Teachers’ Association (FUTA) and that it was a shame to university academics.

While addressing a workshop in Colombo, Prof. Hirimburegama has noted that the actions of a handful of university lecturers are responsible for the current situation in the state universities.

She has called on the authorities to deal with these university academics. According to Prof. Hirimburegama, parents should also take a firm stand against the current action of a group of university lecturers since it is the students who are affected by the ongoing strike since 4 July.

She has further noted that a majority of the university lecturers are keen to return to work, but they are being pressured by a few.
