The Islamic Majlis of D.S. Senanayake College Colombo celebrated its 32 anniversary ‘faith,’ an Islamic day celebration, at the Bishops College auditorium recently. It was held under the patronage of the principal of the College Col. D.M.D. Dissanayake.
The chief guest of the ceremony was former Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran M.M. Zuhair (President Counsel), who requested the parents to encourage their children to educate themselves, by being alert and checking their books once they return home.
He further agreed to the fact that the school is in perfect unity and harmony, even though there is a combination of four religions in the school. He said that this is a good example the other countries could take, he requested the students to take part in extracurricular activities of the school, and parents to help their children for the upliftment of the school.
Former Secretary of the Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs Ministry and Educationist S.H.M. Jameel graced the occasion as the guest of honour. He confessed that the students have done great job by compiling the day’s agenda in four languages, which had an excellent output. He admired D.S. Senanayake College as an example not only to the country, but to the entire world.
The Principal of the College Col. D.M.D. Dissanayake appreciated the students of the collage for working in unity and harmony, most specially he thanked and appreciated the immense support being given by the Muslim parents of the school. Dissanayake requested the parents to encourage the children in their education, due to the fact that the children spend only six hours a day in school, and rest with their parents.
At the award ceremony celebrated at the later part of the event, Rishad Rizan of D.S. Senanayake College, won the overall championship of the Islamic day competition, and received a challenge trophy while Isipathana College received an inter school competition champion award from Zuhair. The Islamic Majlis also celebrated its launching of the official website by S.H.M. Jameel and Zuhair while donating some books to the College Library.
Gracing the occasion was the Deputy Principals Lilani Samaranayke, Janaka Kumara, Vice Principal, school principals, staff, students, and parents.
