The Second Sri Lanka Cisco Career Fair 2011 was organised on Friday, 21 October by the Cisco Networking Academy, in Colombo. The career fair provided a platform for Cisco Partners to meet, interact and connect with the students and graduates of the Cisco Networking Academy.
More than 10 leading companies and over 100 students of the Cisco Networking Academy participated in this year’s fair.
The participating companies shared information about opportunities in their organisations, highlighted the skills and attributes they look for in prospective recruits and selected potential candidates.
The event provided a great platform for students and companies to meet, share insights and network.
According to Regional Head, Corporate Responsibility, Cisco India and SAARC Bina Raj Debur: “Skills training and capacity building are crucial to the sustainable economic development of emerging markets. The Cisco Networking Academy supports IT skills building in the country and career fairs such as this are a great building block to further such initiatives”.
“The success of the Cisco Networking Academy program lies in the fact that it helps transform many young lives and enables them to avail new career opportunities through exciting study courses. It also helps match aspirations with abilities and creates a path which students can pursue with passion,” she added.
Sharing his thoughts on the second Sri Lanka Cisco Career Fair, Vocational Training Authority Chairman and CEO Dhammika Hewapathirana said: “Cisco’s networking Academy is a great Initiative that helps to educate and deliver Internet-based curriculum to a large number of students. Their courses combined with hands on experience enable students to develop practical knowledge and skills that are required for the jobs of the Internet age. The Sri Lanka Cisco Career Fair is a great way for companies to meet prospective recruits and for students to explore various career opportunities all under one roof. It also presents parents of youth a wealth of great insights into various career options that have cropped up in the recent past. Being a Cisco Academy, VTA has three Cisco Training Centres in Colombo, Kandy and Galle with 150 qualified students.”
