Cambridge International Examinations organised a conference in Colombo for principals and deputy principals from all over Sri Lanka.
The conference aimed to support school leaders prepare their learners with the skills they need to be successful in higher education, the world of work and in the modern international world.
More than 70 international, private and national schools from across the island-nation participated in the event. All attending schools offer Cambridge programs and qualifications. Some of the schools included Lyceum International schools, British School, Ladies College, Royal Institute, Ilma International Girls School, OKI International Schools, Wycherley International School, St. Nicholas’ International Colombo, St. Nicholas’ Negombo and Gateway College.
Cambridge International Examinations is a not-for-profit organisation and part of the University of Cambridge, one of the world’s top universities and trusted for excellence in education. Cambridge programs and qualifications are taken in over 160 countries and are recognised by universities, education providers and employers across the world. Schools in Sri Lanka offer a range of Cambridge programs and qualifications including Cambridge Primary, Cambridge O Levels, Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge International AS and A Level. Entries grew by 18% in 2012-13.
John Morris, Senior Education Advisor for Cambridge International Examinations, former Headmaster at Auckland Grammar School and Principal of Takapuna Grammar School in New Zealand, led the conference.

Cambridge Primary is an established and successful program, typically for learners aged five to 11 years. More than 100 schools in Sri Lanka use Cambridge Primary for their curriculum and assessments. Cambridge Secondary 1 is typically for learners aged 11 to 14 years. Cambridge O Level is typically for 14 to 16 year olds and is an internationally recognised qualification similar to Cambridge. It has been designed especially for an international market and is sensitive to the needs of different countries and is designed for learners whose first language may not be English and this is acknowledged throughout the examination process. Cambridge International AS and A Level, typically for learners aged 16 to 19, is regarded as a passport to success in education, university and employment. It is taken by thousands of learners every year who gain places at leading universities worldwide. It develops a deep understanding of subjects, as well as independent learning and constructive thinking skills – abilities which universities value highly and is taken in over 125 countries.
