One of the country’s largest tertiary education providers, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) will power this year’s Future Minds Expo with a gold sponsorship. With a student base of over 41,000, CA Sri Lanka dubbed as the unparalleled leader in accountancy and finance education in Sri Lanka, has for many years closely associated with the Future Minds Expo, recognised as the national higher educational and career exhibition. However this is the first instance the institute will be powering the exhibition with a gold sponsorship. The Future Minds Expo 2013 will be held in Colombo at the BMICH from 21 to 23 June, while the expo in Kandy will be on 29 and 30 June at the Kandy City Centre followed in Galle on 7 and 8 September at the Galle Town Hall. Speaking on the tie up with the 2013 Future Minds Expo, CA Sri Lanka President Sujeewa Rajapakse said the institute always aimed at attracting the best and brightest of students from the commerce and non-commerce streams and the upcoming educational and career exhibition will be a good platform to continue to attract such students to the institute, so the profession will continue to boast of future professional leaders with the required leadership skills who will excel in any sector. Rajapakse emphasised that unlike most other professions, the CA qualification covers a broad spectrum of subjects which benefits the students who later become well proficient professionals in today’s highly competitive business environment. “The Chartered Accountant is a professional in the field of Accountancy - well versed in the subjects of accountancy, auditing, management accountancy, information technology, taxation, corporate and commercial law, financial management, management, economics and other connected subjects,” he noted. CA Sri Lanka qualified chartered accountants, play an important and impressive role in the Sri Lankan boardroom. “Around 60% of the top 50 companies listed in the Colombo Stock Exchange have at least one CA Sri Lanka qualified professional appointed to their respective director boards,” he noted. The Institute has a membership of over 4,300 fully qualified chartered accountants at present. Chief Executive Officer of CA Sri Lanka Aruna Alwis stressed that unlike other professions, accountants are always in demand even at times of financial crisis. “Today we have over 30 percent of our members who are serving in overseas positions. This alone is a strong testament to our institute’s global recognition,” Alwis said. He also noted that the Institute currently offers a globally recognised professional qualification in chartered accountancy and a BSc. degree in applied accounting which has also been approved by the University Grants Commission, along with a host of other courses including a postgraduate diploma, an executive diploma and a MBA program from the University of Southern Queensland. “A special team of well qualified career guidance counsellors will be stationed at the CA Sri Lanka stall in Colombo, Kandy and Galle to help students and their parents with their questions pertaining to the various qualifications offered at the Institute,” he added. The Institute has also organised various competitions for the benefit of students visiting the CA Sri Lanka stalls, while a range of special offers will also be available for students sitting the Advanced Level Examinations this year.
