untitled-2The Business Management School (BMS) held its annual graduation ceremony on 24 November at the BMICH.

BMS has recorded 17 years of success in delivering degree programs of the highest quality awarded by the UK’s Northumbria University to aspiring students in Sri Lanka and abroad.

The event was held under the auspices of Pro Vice Chancellor (International) Northumbria University UK, Prof. Jon Reast, in the afternoon session and Dean of Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Prof. Hemanthi Ranasinghe in the morning session, as chief guests of the respective sessions.

Prof. Gamini Samaranayake of the Department of Political Science at the University of Peradeniya and Nawaloka Group Director Mahesh Dharmadasa graced the occasion as guests of honour. Further, Juli Edgar, Dr. Stan Oliver, Dr. St. John Usher and Ruth Crabtree participated in this event representing Northumbria University.

The ceremony featured over 500 graduates and diplomates who received their awards in the streams of Business and Management, Human Resource Management and Biomedical Science. This was the first time that a non-state sector higher education institution in Sri Lanka had developed Biomedical Scientists, a rare field for the country.

All qualifications are internationally recognised due to them being awarded by the UK’s Northumbria University. BMS has developed them through a partnership with the local corporate sector which includes top-ranking companies.

Additionally, the ceremony recognised the hard work done and academic excellence attained by more than 30 students who had completed the degree with First Class Honours. The graduation ceremony also awarded MBA degrees to those who had completed the degree at Edinburgh Napier University, UK, through BMS.
