The first batch of students to the University of Ruhuna’s Faculty of Technology will be enrolled today.
“Eighty-six students are to be admitted to the Bachelor of Engineering Technology (BET) course of study while 50 students have gained admission to the Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology (BICT) course,” said Senior Professor W.G.D. Dharmarathne, Dean of the recently established Faculty of Technology.
It was the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna, Senior Professor Gamini Senanayake, who proposed that the university establish the faculty of technology with the introduction of the subject of Information and Communication Technology to the school curriculum. The faculty plans to produce internationally accredited professional technologists to meet the needs of the world of technology.
The faculty was established by gazette notification on 26 April 2016. Initially lectures will be held at the University’s Wellamadama complex but university officials hope to move it to the new faculty complex which is currently being constructed in Kamburupitiya.
