Ahead of the dawn of the New Year, Sri Lanka seemingly cemented ties with the world’s superpower USA relations with which have strained following WikiLeaks bombshell among other issues.  The US Government’s USAID under the World Food Programme donated 4,920 metric tonnes of mixed food commodities worth Rs. 510 million to the Sri Lankan Government.  The food items will be distributed among the 300,000 resettled members in the North and the East and individuals living with host families.

Here US Ambassador in Sri Lanka Patricia A. Butenis symbolically hands over the food items to Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday.  As the nation today wakes up to 2011 which heralds a new decade everyone’s wish is likely to be for a Sri Lanka that is self sufficient and a dynamic global citizen harnessing the post-war potential with prosperity to all communities
