A top legislator of China, chairman of National People’s Congress (NPC) Wu Bangguo arrived in Sri Lanka on Saturday on an invitation extended by Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa.
The Chinese legislator was warmly received by the Speaker Rajapaksa upon his arrival at the Katunayake Bandaranayake International Airport.
“China is willing to join hands with Sri Lanka to consolidate traditional friendship, expand pragmatic cooperation, and lift their comprehensive and cooperative partnership to a new height,” Wu has said upon his arrival.
The Chinese official is expected to hold discussions with President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Speaker Rajapaksa during his four-day visit.
The discussions will be focused on enhancing bilateral ties between the two friendly countries. This is the first visit to Sri Lanka by chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, China’s top legislature.
