Over 1,200 bodies were recovered from the scene following the 2004 Asian tsunami on Boxing Day. Hundreds of memorial events were held across Asia on Sunday in memory of the towering waves that crashed ashore with little warning on 26 December, 2004, killing 226,000 people in 13 countries.
