State Minister for Defence assigned 4 defence institutions

President Maithripala Sirisena has assigned four institutions under the Ministry of Defence to State Minister for Defence Ruwan Wijewardene. The President, who is also the Minister of Defence, has taken 10 out of the 14 institutions under his purview. The State Minister is given the Rana Viru Seva Authority, Defence Services Command and Staff College, Rana Viru Seva Authority, Defence Services School and National Cadet Corps under his purview. The President in an extraordinary gazette notification issued on 10 February has announced that State Minister Wijewardene will be responsible for supervision and monitoring of the four institutions. Wijewardene is also responsible for the implementation of the Defence Services Command and Staff College Act, No 5 of 2008 and the Rana Viru Seva Authority Act. Wijewardene confirmed that he has only four institutions under his purview.
