National carrier SriLankan Airlines is extending support to the country’s bid for 2018 Commonwealth Games by embossing the Hambantota logo on all its aircraft

The move is as part of an international campaign to boost the Hambantota 2018 brand.

“As a global brand, the logo provides relevant meaning and experience to people across multiple societies,” said CWG Hambantota 2018 Bid Committee CEO and Director Nalin Attygalle, who participated at the Hambantota 2018 brand initiative with SriLankan Airlines officials.

“This brand initiative is one of the positive determinants of the international branding strategy of Hambantota 2018 and will popularise the brand in this global village. Candidate city logo branding on aircraft will bring the country and the emerging metro city Hambantota great exposure and awareness. It is one of the most appropriate methodologies to attract a large international audience which consists of global travellers,” Atygalle added.

According to him, this branding initiative not only promotes the bid, but will also contribute immensely to position Sri Lanka as  the most suitable candidate city which is coming out of a devastating tsunami situation to developing economic situation and getting ready to host major sports events. This will greatly contribute in building the country’s image internationally and also the tourism sector.

Hambantota’s Commonwealth Games 2018 bid, being a national cause, has received great support from numerous local and international organisations.

Attygalle said ivolvement of SriLankan Airlines is a clear positive indicator that everyone in the country seriously supports Hambantota’s 2018 Commonwealth Games bid, which has already received endorsement from the most influential organisations (public and private) in Sri Lanka.
