Sri Lankasports.com, Sri Lanka’s first sports website, is once again making arrangement to conduct the annual Sri Lankasports.com Intercompany Netball Championship on 21 January at the St. Joseph’s College Indoor Stadium in Colombo.
The Sri Lankasports.com Intercompany Netball Championship was inaugurated in 2006 and held for four consecutive years, reaching the pinnacle of mercantile netball in Sri Lanka with its innovative concepts and approach.
The event will be held in two categories, female and mixed, with 12 teams competing in the female category and eight teams playing in the mixed category. The female category will be played for the Cup, Plate and Bowl Championships while the mixed category will be played only for the Cup championship.

At last year’s competition Seylan Bank regained the Cup Championship after beating Hatton National Bank by 28 goals to 27 in a tense final. Expo Holdings won the Plate Championship beating David Peiris Motor Company in the final by 23 goals to 6. Kanrich Finance took away the Bowl Championship beating Sri Lanka Telecom by 22-4 goals. In the mixed category, Seylan Bank outclassed Nations Trust Bank 14-11 in another thrilling encounter to take the title.
The Sri Lankasports.com Intercompany Netball Championship has introduced a seven-a-side rugby format (play for Cup, Plate, Bowl and Shield in a 7-1-7 minute match duration) to the game of netball in Sri Lanka during the inaugural championship in 2006 and continued to add more features up to 2009.
The introduction of the power play concept to the game of netball in Sri Lanka has also been one of the new features introduced at the event. The Sri Lankasports.com Intercompany Netball Championship has also created history by becoming the first netball tournament to be held entirely in an indoor stadium when it was held at the Sri Lanka Youth Indoor Stadium in Maharagama and the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in 2007 2008 and 2009 respectively.
In 2013, Sri lankasports.com launched another netball tournament for the Banking Sector in Sri Lanka which also booked a place in history by being the first netball event in Sri Lanka to be covered live on television.
Sri Lankasports.com has a successful history of organising unique and innovative sporting events in Sri Lanka. It has organised Sri Lanka’s first Under-19 school Futsal event, the Sri Lankasports.com Futsal Challenge, under the auspices of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka and The Sri Lanka Schools’ Football Association, for two consecutive years.
Sri Lankasports.com is also responsible for organising Sri Lanka’s first day-night inter-club beach football tournament. They also created history by organising the first Under-15 Inter-School Handball Championship in Sri Lanka in 2012.
