Smart Media – The Annual Report Company was last week declared as the winner of the prestigious Platinum Achievement Award for annual reports worldwide at this year’s ARC Awards in New York City.

It is the second time that Smart Media has bagged the Platinum at the ARC Awards – a de facto recognition as the Global Number One for corporate annual reports by the industry.

The ARC Awards was established in 1987 by the International Academy of Communications Arts and Sciences/MerComm, Inc. to honour overall excellence in annual reports and to encourage noteworthy and vital writing, as well as imaginative and original design. It is the world’s oldest international competition for annual reports – often referred to as the ‘Academy Awards’ in the annual reporting world.

The 26th annual ‘Oscars’ were presented at the Grand Award Winners gala dinner on 20 September 2012 at the New York Palace Hotel. Smart Media’s Chairman Dr. Vijith Kannangara and Chief Officer Process Development Raja Senanayake accepted the Platinum Achievement Award on behalf of the company. Luxshmanan Nadaraja, a close associate of Smart Media, and eight clients graced the event.

“Competing with a record-breaking 2,200 entries from 32 countries was a daunting challenge, and we are positively elated by the outcome,” said Dr. Kannangara. “In addition to our Platinum, what is equally significant is the haul of three Grand Awards and 63 Category Awards that we won for our clients, including 22 Gold Awards. Our clients come from very diverse sectors and countries. The international exposure they receive at such forums reinforces their commitment to exemplary corporate communications, which in turn furthers stakeholder relations and business opportunities.”

Achievement at ARC awards comes on the heels of a previous best in winning the Platinum for the Asia Pacific Agency for the Year and the Gold Worldwide at the League of American Communications Professionals (LACP) Vision Awards 2012 announced about two months ago.

Established over 15 years ago, Smart Media – The Annual Report Company has business in Bahrain, Hong Kong, Oman, Qatar and UAE in addition to Sri Lanka. Commenting on the company’s plans, Senanayake observed: “Given the huge potential for providing value added services in the region and beyond, we are now looking at niche markets globally for mutually-beneficial partnerships.”

The spotlight next turns to Germany. Dr. Kannangara has been invited to speak on 22 October 2012 at the conference preceding the inauguration of the prestigious biannual exhibition of a selection of the best annual reports of the world at the Museum fürKunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg. The exhibition will also showcase some of Smart Media’s award winning work.
