The much hyped and equally controversial launch of the country's first ever Rs. 5,000 currency note got a city glitz last night in Colombo with Senior Minister International Economic Cooperation Dr. Sarath Amunugama and Deputy Finance Minister Geethanjana Gunawardena in attendance. The launch was midst rhythm by dancers and drummers symbolising some of the characters depicted in the new currency note.

At the launch the Central Bank presented the 11th series of currency notes on the theme  “Development, Prosperity and Sri Lankan Dancers.” Here Dr. Amunugama shows off the Rs. 5,000 note whilst Deputy Finance Minister Gunawardena, Central Bank Governor Nivard Cabraal, Deputy Governor K.G.D.D. Dheerasinghe and Currency Department Superintendent C.P.A. Karunatilake are also present – Pic by Upul Abayasekara
