President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Sunday opened the ‘Sethsuwa Medura’ organic food outlet at the Sri Sambodhi Viharaya premises in Colombo.
The Sethsuva Medura is an initiative of the Sambodhi Viharaya and the Government Medical Officers Association. Chief Incumbent of the Sambodhi Viharaya Ven. Daranagama Kusaladhamma Thera presided over the ceremony.
After inaugurating the Sethsuva Medura, the President visited the stalls and exchanged views with the sales personnel. Expressing his views, the President stated that the time has come to provide people with healthy organic food devoid of toxins along with the development that is taking place in the country since end of the three decade war. The President called on the farming community to contribute to this noble task and also to refrain from using chemical fertilisers.
The Sethsuva Medura will remain open on all Sundays at the Sri Sambodhi Vihare in Colombo 7. A clinic is also being held on non-communicable diseases.
The President also launched the website www.healthysrilanka.lk which will raise awareness on food and nutrition.
The President handed over souvenirs to Chef Publis Silva for promoting local recipes and Baladurage Chandrasiri for his contribution to promote tourism through art. A list of proposals prepared by the GMOA for the creation of a healthy society was handed over to the President. The President also made an observation visit to the Buddhist Channel.
Chief Incumbent of the Sambodhi Vihare Ven. Daranagama Kusaladhamma Thera, ministry officials including the Secretary to the Health Ministry Dr. Nihal Jayatillake, the Commanders of the security forces and the IGP participated in the occasion.
