President receives proposals and recommendations for Commonwealth’s role

President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the chair of the Commonwealth for the next two years has received a set of proposals and recommendations at a discussion held yesterday. A dialogue on the role of the Commonwealth for next two years and the challenges to be overcome was conducted today at the Taj Samudra Hotel in Colombo with the participation of a large number of country’s academics and scholars. President Rajapaksa also joined the dialogue organized by the University Grants Commission and the Ministry of Higher Education. Higher Education Minister S.B Dissanayake handed over the proposals which are to be implemented during the next two years by the Commonwealth to the President at the event. The proposals and recommendations have been prepared by considering the experiences in Sri Lanka and the dialogues conducted by the intellectuals. The University Academics felicitated the President for being elected as the chair of the Commonwealth. Chairperson of the University Grants Commission Prof. Kshanika Hirimburegama, External Affairs Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris, and Secretary to the Ministry of Higher Education Dr. Sunil Navaratne also participated in the discussion.
