President Mahinda Rajapaksa arrived at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok yesterday for a four-day visit to Thailand. Thailand’s Vice Prime Minister Yongyoot Wichaidit welcomed President Rajapaksa on his arrival at the airport.
During his visit President Rajapaksa will meet Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and exchange views on bilateral relations, as well as on regional and multilateral issues.
The President is also scheduled to have a royal audience with Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. External Affairs Ministry of Sri Lanka and the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Thailand will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on ‘Bilateral Political Consultations and Exchanging of the Instruments of Ratification for the Treaty between Thailand and Sri Lanka on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters’. President Rajapaksa will attend the opening ceremony of the Buddha Jayanti, the Celebration of 2,600 Years of the Buddha’s Enlightenment on Thursday 31 May. President Mahinda Rajapaksa will deliver a speech on ‘Buddha’s enlightenment for the well- being of humanity’ on Saturday 2 June at the celebration of the Buddha Jayanti. During his visit to the Thai capital President will attend a Business Forum and a Business luncheon with Thai and Sri Lankan business leaders.
