through politics were trying to gain political mileage telling tall tales to the world.
He said that all people who love the country are already gathering round the ruling party and rejecting those attempts.
The President stressed that Sri Lanka never waged war against the Tamil community but battled against terrorism to free the country for all communities.
He noted that the Tamil party Tamil National Alliance (TNA) was then a proxy party of the Tiger terrorists and the TNA appeared on behalf of terrorists in Parliament at that time. Some Tamil MPs were candidates who were put forward by the terrorist leader, he said, adding that the Government held discussions with them knowing those facts.
The truth could not be erased from the hearts of the people forever, the President said.
“Those who cannot win the hearts of the people, and knowing that they cannot form a Government, are carrying tales to the international community hoping that they would hand over the power of the country to them,” he said.
He pointed out that now the whole country has benefited from the Government’s development programs and the north and the south have been given equal treatment.
The President expressed confidence that the people would give the mandate to the ruling party; sending a clear message to the world that they cannot interfere in the affairs of the country.
Ministers Kumara Welgama, Rajitha Senaratne, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Reginald Cooray, Nirmala Kothalawala, deputy ministers and parliamentarians were also present at the rally.
