President assures equal rights for all at Thaipongal festival in Nuwara Eliya

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has emphasized his commitment to ensuring everyone in Sri Lanka is guaranteed equal rights, and assured the security of Tamils at an annual Thaipongal festival held at Nuwara Eliya on Wednesday.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President assured participants that the government is dedicated to implement equal justice to the people in the towns, the villages as well as in the estates.
The festival was organised by the President and the First Lady at President’s House in Nuwara Eliya on Wednesday.
Addressing the function the President said that everyone should dedicate themselves to protect the nation and future generations.
He expressed hope that the next Thaipongal could be celebrated in a country devoid of intoxicants and devoid of religious and ethnic divisions.
