Parliament honours cricketers

Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Management and the Leader of the House of Parliament Nimal Siripala de Silva moved a special resolution yesterday at Parliament supported by the Acting Leader of the Opposition and Chief Opposition Whip John Amaratungato felicitate the Sri Lanka Cricket Team for winning the T20 World Cup in Bangladesh. The Sri Lanka Cricket Team was received by Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody, Minister of Water Supply and Drainage and Chief Government Whip Dinesh Gunawardena, and MP Amaratunga before being escorted to the special guests’ gallery in Parliament to attend the Vote of Felicitation. Moving the felicitation, Minister de Silva praised the team for its unparalleled performance at the recently-concluded T20 World Cup despite internal as well as external issues the team faced both in Sri Lanka and abroad. “This victory is so special. Our players were able to conquer the mental stress that had been caused by bureaucratic interference in the game of cricket. Courageously they overcame such issues and other challenges and were able to bring honour to the motherland,” said Minister de Silva.
