Today Sri Lanka is celebrating World Tourism Day in style, with a range of celebrations planned to showcase the country’s wonders to the world. Special youth programmes and commemorative stamp releases are part of the event to promote an industry that has taken off since the end of the war. For the first half of the year, Sri Lanka attracted 537,787 visitors and hopes to top 750,000 before the end of 2011, while a target of 2.5 million has been set for 2016.
